For those of you who are familiar with
Doctor Who, you will know that this year marks the 50th
anniversary of the long running science fiction show and the Studio
Of Mosaic Art has been caught up in the excitement.
The iconic Police Box had landed
sometime ago and is now joined by one of the doctors arch
nemesis, the Daleks.
Although this fellow does not seem as
scary as those of the past. In fact he looks more like he is ready
for a nice cup of tea and a chat.
As with all works at the studio, the
emphasis is always on fun and this installation is no different.
This Dalek is far more inviting than intimidating and he even has his
own steppingstone path so you can go up and have a closer look and
get to know him better.
Each steppingstone depicts a
different iconic picture of the series.
Welcome.
Dalek.
TARDIS.
Cyberman.
Slavine.
Sontaran.
The Ood.
The fourth Doctor, Tom Baker.
The 1980 Doctor Who logo.
The irony of this installation it that
Bruce himself does not follow the show, but it was the enthusiasm of
his numerous grandchildren that swept him along in this venture and
they are all thrilled to see the Dalek that now lives in Plompa's (As
their grandfather is affectionately know.) garden.
So if you are driving into Strathalbyn
along the Adelaide Rd, look in the garden of number 25 and give the
Dalek a wave, or even drop in for a visit. I am sure he would love
it.
Bruce would like to thank the following
people.
Ray Wakefield:
For installing the TARDIS and stepping
stones onto the site.
Greg Schultz:
For the use of his forklift to
transport the Dalek from the studio to the site.
Brian Noble:
For making the TARDIS and for getting
the project started.
Matt, from Panayraphix:
For the making of the stickers to go on
the TARDIS.
Tim Faehrmann:
For building the frame of the Dalek.
Ali Mugford:
For the design and making of the
steppingstones.
Linda Demasi:
For giving a large portion of her time
and help on the Dalek itself.
To all 11 grandchildren:
For their inspiration and excitement
for the project and having a Darlek in Plompa's garden.
And lastly and most importantly, to my
wife Susan:
For giving me full rein on my
creativity and coping with me.
All in all this was a team effort.
Well
done team!
